Hired BridesMaids

So Loan's Wedding was today...we didn't do much of anything. Angelique, Ate and I arrived at the church and no one was there yet. We spent the first 10mins trying to fix our tattered scarves coz we couldn't walk down the aisle with just our sleeveless dresses. Then I almost tripped (but thankfully didn't) while I was walking. The ceremony itself was short and sweet. But the greetings after it ran a bit too long coz we ran out of time and the park picture taking was cancelled (w/c sucks). We had about 3 hours to kill before the reception so we went to Wendys (I know, classy place to go to after a wedding but we were hungry) and then walked around Vaughn Mills. Angelique and I should've changed our shoes coz we were dying.

The reception hall was really nice, the food was indian so I was really happy with that. They also played some indian music and that was fun to dance to. The thing that kind of upset us is that we were completely left out of the wedding. We had nothing to do, we weren't even with the rest of the entourage when they came to the church. Not only that but at the reception, we weren't seated with the rest of the entourage but at the last table at the back!!! Yeah, totally left out. We felt like hired bridesmaids for the pictures...and well, I guess we did our job coz the photographer loved us. He took pictures of us wherever we go (and I'm definitely sure he didn't do that with the maids of honour!) hahhahaa.

Overall, it was a fun night and am really glad for Loan and Mayur. As usual, I had no such luck with catching the bouquet....guess I'll just be a proverbial bridesmaid/maid of honour. Blech!

Corrupting Colin

So today we went on the Chief Commande...a ferryboat cruise around Lake Nippissing. It was nice, took lots of pics as usual. Bought drinks for Joey and Larry...the underagers. After the cruise, Anne-Marie, Caitlin and I went to the mall. First, we wanted to see if there was another way from the beach to the bus station. After walking quite a way, we asked some hotdog stand lady if there was another way than the one we always took and she said no. grrr. we didn't want to walk all the way to the other end of the beach coz we would miss the bus so we decided to hop a fence...well, it ended up to be 2 fences. So funny! We tried to look inconspicuous but we hopped the fence close to a merry go round and train ride. So funny, all these kids watching 3 girls climb a wire fence. Then on the way to the other side, I lost my slipper while climbing out of a ditch (mixture of sand and dried tar) Then I lost it again while trying to climb the 2nd fence. The best part of the whole adventure was that when we got to the bus stop, we found out that everyone was there and they all witnessed our escapade...and me losin my slippers! Note to self, next time I decide to climb fences again, wear proper shoes!

Tonight we had a party at my place. Sole purpose of the party: to get Colin as drunk as we can (the boy doesn't drink although we have been spiking his smoothies for weeks now!) To cut a long but funny story short....mission successful!!! For every new drink that someone opened, Colin had to take a shot of it. But ofcourse, Joey and I were cheating him all the way. So funny!!! Joey and Becky and Kate also got tanked. Jessica fell asleep early. I threatened to smash Nadia in the face because she was going to spray the fire extinguisher into her mouth (coz Joey dared her to do it and she was dumb enough not to figure out that she would die with the pressure in that tank!) Rami (another 17yr old) had his first drink ever tonite and he taught me and Kate the coolest Rami dance. You have to see it for yourself! By the end of the night, Colin and Becky broke a glass each, Joey fell asleep on the floor again, we created some pretty messed up homevideos and well...everybody in the house got TIPSY! Good times all around =)

Sturgeon Falls

We went to Sturgeon Falls today...cute little town about 30mins away from North Bay. Apres la classe, Caitlin, Anne-Marie and I explored the town. We tried to get matching dresses and cowboy hats but there were only 2 of the ones we liked and they were a little tight and see-through as well. Yeah, we're not Olya (one of the girls in the program who is always scantilly clad)! That night, we went to a spectacle at an outdoor patio. Fritz Lariviere was really fun especially since many of the audience were singing along with his songs. I polished off 5 beers (joey actually wanted me to drink more but i had plans to go hiking that night so decided not to). We played asshole (or trou de cul) and took lots of crazy pics. Good times indeed. After singing Alouette (that dreaded french folk song) we hopped on our yellow school bus and headed home.

Since it was still a full moon, Colin and I decided to go on our moonlit hike again. I dunno if it had anything to do with the fact that I was slightly intoxicated (but maybe not coz Colin didn't drink a drop that night) but we felt that the rocks deliberately moved to block our path coz we kept trippin the whole way to and from the lookout point. When we finally got there, a couple (whom we nicknamed Don Juan and Esmeralda) were occupying our spot! Grrrr...they thought we were bears and so not wanting to intrude on their romantic rendez-vous we decided to just head back down. On the way home, we stopped by a clearing to look at the stars and the full moon. While we were standing there, we noticed something in the sky that looked like a star but it was moving and we concluded it must be a U.F.O. Colin jokingly said that we were currently standing on their abduction site. Then, just when he said that, the tree behind us moved (and yes we really think it moved!) I yelled like a girl (coz I am) and so did Colin (which was sooo funny) and bolted! So crazy. Then my beloved tree wacked Colin in the head and Colin also found his hugging tree (and gave it a big hug of course). All in all, it was a good weird fun night. Tomorrow, we are going to party and get Colin drunk (coz he's a good boy and doesn't drink). Hehehehehehe

Moonlit Hike

After another boring day of classes, we had another equally boring day of afternoon activities. I swear, they get more pointless everyday. Yesterday, we did a sort of scavenger hunt wherein we were given french clues and had to find small pieces of paper that corresponded to it. So dumb. Two of the members in our team cheated and tore out the papers for the other team so that they couldn't find it. Then one of them, Nadia, was stupid enough to tell the other group what she did. Soooo dumb! I mean, if you're gonna cheat, might as well cheat properly. Larry was so pissed!!! After that, Becky and I went to NorthGate Mall. We had a 30mins wait before our next bus so we ate dinner at subway..freaking expensive and my sub was rock hard. Never gonna eat there again! Then we almost missed our bus. It was worth the trip though coz we went crazy shopping at the dollar store (yeah, we're gonna be doing arts and crafts coz we are soo utterly bored) and I also got a salsa cd and 3T (totally rockin boy band hahhahhaha) for 99 cents each. Wicked! We got home sooo late coz we missed the bus out of the mall.

When we got back, I noticed that it was a full moon. So after chillin for a while, Colin and I decided to go on a hike by the trails. We had to run and leave Nadia behind (coz she freakin annoys me and is such a bizarre girl!) I admit, it was kinda mean but I don't think we would've had as much fun if she came along. It was pretty dark along the trail but I had a flashlight. Colin saw a garter snake, I thought a rock was a huge toad and there were some bats flying around. We made it to the lookout point and the view was breathtaking! We stayed there for a while swapping crazy stories till it got too cold and we headed back home. At "base camp" Jessica was still up, and we ended up stayin up till 2am chatting it up about the dreaded topic of boys (as usual).

All in all, despite the lack of french learning, am having a good time here in North Bay. 3 more weeks to go!!!

The Degenerates

So, a week has passed in sunny North Bay and oh have the personalities started to come out or what. 2 people are hooked up...both with slightly iffy dudes...and one maintenance guy is running away from my roommate. how funny is that. yeah, i can tell that some people are not going to be the greatest friends after this program...tension is indeed in the air. We're getting creeped out by the natives (coz they invite themselves in and eat our food and drink our booze without replenishing the goods) I'm teachin Colin how to dance (we actually went to a club - Colin, Caitlin, Jessica, Selay and I - where they played latin music and hiphop. it was fun despite the fact that the place was empty. We got free stuff...and that's all that matters! We've been drinking a lot (well, in moderation everyday) and been eating gourmet meals curtesy of our cooks Selay and Colin. Weird...we get so bored up here that we make regular trips to No Frills and Zellers for entertainment. We did tarot card readings several nights ago and we predicted that Colin (who doesn't drink) will be corrupted by the end of the 5 weeks, I will fat and also get into a fight with someone and soleil will be in shape. Etc. Etc.

It's been quite amusing so far....if only i wasn't struggling too much with the french thing. We really should start speaking the language on a regular basis. As for my Spanish Lessons....that ain't working well either. sigh, one thing at a time i guess...

Residence 53-5 North Bay

So my first week in Canadore College, North Bay is coming to an end. I must say, it's been pretty fun so far. Everyone is really nice and friendly. I'm sharing a loft/cabin residence with 2 17 yr olds (yes i'm the senior of the house) whom i was supposed to corrupt but have now learned that they would most likely end up corrupting me. Jessica's pretty cool and so is Nadia...although she gets kinda weird and is starting to get on my nerves a little bit. Overall, we get along pretty well. Our French bursary program gives us food allowance of $160 which is awesome coz we've cheaped out on the groceries and have been partying instead. hehehe. Last night we went to the Moose to have some chicken wings. Unfortunately, we couldn't get in because the majority of us who went were underaged. It was still fun though coz we walked to the beach and played tag in the sand. We then moved the party to my place where I tried to teach Colin (sweet guy from New Brunswick) how to salsa and merengue. We will be holding practice lessons from now on. These two fellas that go to Nippissing University also came over (Ricardo and Caleb) and they ended up staying the longest, drinkin all our liquor until I had to tell them to leave. They're native Canadians which is cool and I told them that they have to supply the alcohol next time coz we're all out! Overall, it's been fun so far. The classes are a little hard (I dunno how I managed to get into the advance section) but it's cool learning french again. Tomorrow, we get to go to Sturgeon Falls and go strawberry picking...en francais ofcourse!

Ode to Nathan

So how lucky am I to have a friend like Nathan? Today, he picked me up from my house and drove 5 hours all the way to North Bay where I'm taking French Immersion classes for the next 5 weeks. The drive up was so much fun. We stopped by a cool hamburger place called Weber's and listened to really good music. Then when we finally got to the place, we wandered around for an hour trying to find where I'm supposed to register. We then hit the grocery store and chilled at my new temporary crib, just talking and laughing and listing off names of people we can possibly date. Pure Jokes!

I'm so glad that I chose Science, that I went to Waterloo and that I was late for my first Chemistry Lab or otherwise I wouldn't have met Nathan, wouldn't have had an awesome lab partner who knew as much (or even more) Disney songs than I do, wouldn't have had a buddy who would introduce me to new cool bands or lend me great movies and most of all, I wouldn't have had a friend who would drive 2 1/2 hours in traffic from Kitchener to Maple and then drive me 5 hours to North Bay (and make it seem like less than 30mins because we have so many things in common) even though he's only going to be in the country for less than a week and probably have other better things to do than waste a day away with me. I wish I could be just as good a friend as he is. Nathan Rocks!!!!

The Myth

Had an awesome time at Greek Town tonite. Annie picked Amar and I from our respective homes and we went down to The Myth a restaurant along Danforth where Amar's friend Elena was performing. The place was nice, the music was good, the food was alright and it was fun seeing Greek people dance. Most of all, it was cool hanging out with those two again...pure jokes just like the old days at Novex!

Started out Great, Ended up Terribly

Ever had a day that was so good you wanted it to last forever...and a night that was so bad you just couldn't wait for it to end? Well, I just had one yesterday. First, the good stuff. My friend Juan and I don't always get to hang out together. However, the few times that we do, we always have such a great time. For the first time in years, him and I spent time together just the two of us. It was so much fun. We planned to go to the Art Gallery of Ontario in Downtown Toronto so we met up early at Finch Station. First we had breakfast at Maison du Croissant (I think that was the name of the cafe) then we made our way to Nathan Phillips Square where there was supposed to be a free concert and featured restaurants. It so happened to be the Downtown Toronto Jazz Festival, so we got to listen to some cool Jazz music. We didn't stay long coz it was so nice outside. We were looking for a place to eat when we passed by the park where so many years ago, him and our friends spent one of the best summer afternoons ever. So, feeling a tad nostalgic, we sat on the grass and reminisced about old times. We also kept each other updated with all the drama that has gone on in our lives. We had lunch in a nice Japanese restaurant where Juan stuffed himself with salmon before we headed to A.G.O. When we got there, half the gallery was under construction and only 4 rooms were available! Felt totally jipped! However, we still managed to have a lot of fun, taking random photos with sculptures.

Everything went downhill after this point. First, going home, I got on the wrong bus and the bus driver was being such an ass and would not let anyone get off at my stop. Then on the way home, my bro took the wrong route and we got stuck in crazy traffic. When we did get home, my bro announced that I only had about 30mins to get ready and make up my mind whether I wanted to go clubbin that night. I was so not in the mood for it anymore because I was so tired from walking around but I couldn't get a hold of my friend Charlotte with whom I was supposed to meet up. Somehow, I managed to find a friend to meet up with and VP dropped me off at Rudy's place. So things started looking up. Rudy's bro dropped us off at Afterlife (club) just in time so that we were on the guest list, had line bypass and got in the club for free. And then I came to the realization that it was an Asian Jam. Look here, I have no problems with Asians. I am Asian myself and I've got lots of Asian friends. However, I cannot stand asian jams in which a bunch of girls get drunk so easily and start doing hug fests, a bunch of people who cannot dance and the absolute lack of eye candy!!! Despite having some of my friends there, I just wasn't having a good time and I wanted to leave. My bro was supposed to pick me up downtown but when I called him he was already uptown! To top it off, at this time, the subway was no longer working and there wasn't any room for me in Rudy's friend's car. Aaaaaaaaaargghh!!! I ended up getting dropped off at a bus stop, having to deal with an annoying guy who was telling me that standing there meant that I wanted something more than just to get home(like what the heck is that supposed to f%&#ing mean?), sitting beside a drugged up couple who kept making out with their tongues out (so gross) and ruining my earrings (i dunno how that happened). Then, just when I got off the bus and finally I can get home. My brother waits at some out of sight parking lot, different from where we planned to meet up and I had to not only end up waiting by myself at a gas station for 10mins but I had to deal with some stupid drunken Russian dude trying to pick me up. Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!
I swear, how could a day that started out great end up this badly?

So, despite leaving the club early, I ended up coming home past 3am. Then my mom woke me up today at 8:30am coz we had to go cherry picking. However, even though I had a terrible night and was quite exhausted, cherry picking with my mom and our neighbour Vod ended up being really fun. I mean, we did have to drive around to several farms to find the best cherries but it was great anyway. Which is how it should be since after all, it is Canada Day today. Now, am looking forward to seeing some nice fireworks later tonite and to going back to sleep coz tomorrow, is back to work for me. Why can't the good times just last?
